SOUZA LIMA CONSERVATORY is a major institution in Brazil and the biggest private music institution in the Country. With 30 years of tradition, a student body with eighteen hundred students every semester, and 60 qualified teachers in jazz and classical music, Souza Lima is divided in two parts the Conservatory and International College.
Souza Lima International College (BIN school, Berklee International Network) started in 2004 offering a strong foundation for the first two years of the students that are going to Berklee College. BIN also includes some great schools in Canada, Equator, Finland, Spain, Israel, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Korea, Malasia and Mexico
We offer daily classes from 8:30am to 11:00pm that includes: Harmony, Trad. Harmony , History of Music, Arranging , Music Technology, Conducting, Ensembles, Ear Training and Improvisation. We are located in the “heart” of Sao Paulo city, and our facilities include 45 classrooms, 12 of them are studios for ensemble classes, Harmony, Ear Trainning and other Theory classes.
Souza Lima has an audio and a production department as well, with 5 studios, graduating audio engineers for about 5 years already.
Our distinguished teachers are graduated from Berklee, University of Miami and other schools overseas, most of them with Master´s Degree. All teachers are players performing regulary, in the Brazilian scene. Names like: Lupa Santiago, Carlos Ezequiel, Marcelo Coelho, Daniel D´Alcantara, Rodrigo Morte, Guilherme Ribeiro and many others.
Some of the teachers are part of the Brazilian Music History, like: Sizão Machado, Nenê, Vitor Alcantara and Bob Wyatt.
Souza Lima produced 3500 events since 1.983, many of them were outside the school, places like: Theaters, Pub´s, Jazz Club´s , Public Park´s , other colleges and consulates, including the american consulate. We have master classes every month, artists like Nelson Faria, Hermeto Pascoal, Guinga, Toninho Horta, Robertinho Silva, Richard Bona, Mike Stern, Scott Henderson, Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Joe Zavinul , B.B. King, Frank Gambale, Gary Willis, played at our concert, SL Hall, that has the capacity of 150 people.
Souza Lima is associated with other schools in different states around the country offering teacher training, clinics and concerts with clinicians every semester.
Our student body includes musicians from Peru, Chile, Paraguai, Russia besides Brazilians from all regions of the country.
We have a daily updated website, a weekly TV program with concerts and interviews, a web magazine with interviews, mp3, releases and a web store, selling cd´s, dvd´s, books and instruments all over Brazil.
Now associated with IAJE and IASJ we plan to host a conference in the near future in Sao Paulo as well as sending teachers and students to the conferences overseas.
From the very beginning, Souza Lima has encouraged individuality while inspiring excellence and innovation, in generations of Brazilians through the study of music. We do have the commitment to develop the musicians and audiences of tomorrow. Souza Lima became an international force for Educational and Cultural Development. We also instruct our most gifted artists, so that Brazil can take its place at the forefront of the community of nations, in the field of music.
